Did you know that Denmark’s largest outdoor skating rink is in Esbjerg? Every winter, you can enjoy 1500 m² of ice in the city’s main square (Torvet).
The rink is surrounded by beautiful buildings, and these, together with the pulse and atmosphere of the city provide the perfect setting.
What you can experience
The skating rink offers fun and challenge for all ages, no matter how accomplished you are at skating. The rink has an ice ramp, an ice-covered children’s slide and two ice bumps.
The skating rink is free. If you don’t have your own skates you can rent them, as well as helmets and skating frames for small children at the booth by the rink. Also, if your own skates are worn down, you can get them sharpened at the booth.
The opening hours are fixed year by year depending on the weather, but as a general rule the skating rink opens at the end of November when Christmas shopping starts, and closes at the end of the winter break in February.
You can find the opening hours at Sport & Event Park Esbjerg, who are responsible for the maintenance of the skating rink - www.sepe.dk/sepe-aktiviteter/offentlig-skojtning/
Make it a really good day by taking some delicious hot
chocolate with you in a thermos.
At Christmas time you can also visit
the Christmas Village in the city square
and enjoy looking at the beautiful Christmas lights in Kongensgade.
If you need to warm up, then pop in to one of the many cosy cafés in the city centre.
After your skating trip, go for a walk up Torvegade to the Music house (Musikhuset Esbjerg) and continue your stroll along the harbour promenade to Landgangen, where you can enjoy a view over the city park and harbour.
